MetLife foundation was established in 1976 with a mission to improve the financial lives of low-income people around the world by partnering with effective organizations that provide advice and access to high-quality financial services. The lessons that we and our partners learn are shared to continuously improve products and services. Since 2013 MetLife Foundation refocused its grant making toward financial inclusion. To support its mission, the Foundation has committed $200 million over five years to help low-income individuals and families get access to safe and affordable financial products and services.
MetLife Foundation works in both developing and developed economies to expand and improve financial services. We fund approaches that help low- and moderate-income people to:
- improve basic cash flow management
- prepare for life’s inevitable challenges
- take advantage of opportunities
- achieve their short- and long- term goals.
BIDV MetLife Corporate Responsibility in Vietnam
Since 2013, MetLife Foundation has made USD 5 million in grants in Vietnam that collectively hold the potential to impact more than 300,000 low-income households. BIDV MetLife is proud to be the representative in Vietnam to support our grant partners who are helping low income people and businesses and businesses gain access to safe, affordable, and effective financial services such as bank accounts, savings accounts, loans, insurance, pensions and more. We are also honored to receive Amcham CSR Recognition Awards in two consecutive years including 2016 and 2017 for our great contribution to community.
“MetLife Pro-Bono Asia” Initiative in Vietnam to Support Vietnamese NGOs
In 2016 we encouraged our employees to work with three non for profits organizations in Vietnam to solve their pressing problems in marketing, finance, etc. 17 of our talented executives from 6 countries spent more than 1500 hours supporting these NGOs . We’ve also funded data and insights work including the mix market’s mapping of all the financial institutions, which could be useful both for policy makers as well as last mile institutions; We also work directly with partners to provide better savings and credit services, etc., which provides works with more than hundreds of low income women. We are providing them with world class expertise to improve their financial services, technology and systems so that their existing and new clients can get access to a wide range of targeted and affordable financial services which are conveniently delivered.
Room to Read’s Program to Support Girls with Life Skills and Education
With a shared belief that “ the world change starts with education” we also focus on funding and assisting young girls to pursue their education we partner with Room to Read – a well-recognized NGO to support hundreds of girls across 3 Southern provinces to enhance their opportunities, pursue higher education and set themselves up for success.
Micro Finance and Financial Inclusion
Since 2014 MetLife Foundation has supported Trickle Up’s work bringing financial inclusion to ultra-poor households and based on the positive impact and success from the previous program, together, Trickle Up and MetLife Foundation have taken the next transformational step to extend partnership in Vietnam with a strong organization: Plan International. The program aims at providing financial education, skills and connection to formal institutions, improving lives for thousands of people and ultra-poor household in central highland of Vietnam.
